Sustenance and Provision for Trumpet Trio
by Eddie Lewis
Sustenance and Provision is one of several compositions I wrote trying to emphasize the sound of the trumpet with long sustained notes and very slow melodies. In these compositions I am looking for a combination of beauty and peace and joy, all wrapped up in one.
Trumpet can be a powerful instrument and has been used that way throughout the entire history of the instrument. But there is another side of our art that is quite capable of producing almost angelic sounds. That’s what I was looking for.
Sustenance and Provision the Title
The title of this piece refers to the fact that God the Father provides for my every need. Interesting coincidence that I am posting this product now, here on Tiger Music, during the COVID-19 Coronavirus scare. It is in the terrible times when we come to trust on God more, and lean on Him when there is no one else to lean on.
Just as with the other very slow compositions from this group of pieces, the skill level is deceptive. Sustenance and Provision looks ridiculously easy. It is not. The skill required to play it well is not technical in the sense that there are no fast notes or tricky key signatures or anything like that. The skill required has more to do with musical maturity. The most important of which is probably good phrasing. For that reason, we are marking this as an advanced piece (Trumpet Pro level).
