Joy to the World Trumpet Trio
George Frideric Handel, Isaac Watts
Arr. Eddie Lewis
This arrangement of Joy to the World barrows rhythms from the New Orleans second line style. For many years, adding second line and/or salsa rhythms to my classical compositions and arrangements was one of my trademarks. This comes from the influence of having played hundreds of salsa gigs over a period of twenty years, when I was one of the top salsa trumpet players in Houston.
This arrangement is one of two that I wrote in 2017 with a modern twist. The other one was Silent Night. Both have been very popular because they offer something a little different from the typical Christmas trumpet trio music.
This Joy to the World trumpet trio arrangement is for intermediate trumpet players. For those familiar with our skill levels, this arrangement is at the Trumpet Apprentice skill level. The highest note in the first part is written B flat above the staff. There are some syncopated rhythms, but the rhythms are otherwise pretty easy.
Perfect for Christmas Gigs
This trumpet trio arrangement of Joy to the World was meant to be played on Christmas gigs. It’s a fun arrangement with a snappy/poppy beat.
