Here’s another installment in the Trumpet Hymn Duet series. This is a series of duet hymns that are meant to stay very close to the original mood and harmonies of the hymn.
America the Beautiful is a hymn. Some people think of it as a song but it’s not. It is on strophic form, not in song form.
The Arrangement
This America the Beautiful trumpet duet follows the same format as the other Trumpet Hymn Duets. It starts off with simple statements of the melody. In this case, it begins with each of the two trumpet players playing in solo for four bars. Then they break into harmony.
The second verse moves a little more. This movement is mostly in the second trumpet part.
The third verse has great fanfare figures. There is also a section where the second trumpet plays something of an Arban interval exercise, but it sounds great in that spot. Not just appropriate, but very climatic.
Skill Level
We are putting the skill level for this duet arrangement of America the Beautiful at the Trumpet Master level, which is our sixth of seven levels. It’s an advanced piece, mostly because of the chops you need to play it.

Amazing duet with wonderful harmonies for a fair price! I regularly play this with my teacher.
