Description
Passion Trumpet Quartet
Passion trumpet quartet is my most epic small trumpet ensemble composition. It contains four movements of very serious material. It’s not a “fun” piece for trumpet quartet. We have plenty of those here at Tiger Music, but this one is serious. Passion trumpet quartet tells the story of holy week, leading up to Jesus’ resurrection on Eater Sunday.
The four movements for Passion are as follows:
- Last Supper
- Crucifixion
- Burial
- Resurrection
The seriousness of the movements is portrayed by the level of dissonance in the harmonies. Everything else about the piece is conservative. The melodies and rhythms are almost easy.
Trumpet Pro Skill Level
We are setting Passion trumpet quartet at the Trumpet Pro skill level, even though there is one written D above the staff. I don’t typically do that. If there is even one aspect of the composition that goes beyond one skill level, we will place it in the next higher skill level. But Passion is fifteen minutes long and everything else in the piece is Trumpet Pro skill level or lower. I can’t see rating the entire piece at a higher level only because of one note.
For those who are unfamiliar with our skill level system, Trumpet Pro skill level is the fifth of seven levels. It is the first of three advanced levels. So you could say that it is at an “intermediate/advanced” skill level.
