O Come All Ye Faithful Trumpet Duet

Christmas Carol Trumpet Duet
I have mentioned it in other descriptions from this Christmas carol trumpet duet series, but for me it is the primary aspect of the arrangements that causes them to sound the way they do. I have written a creative arrangement of O Come All Ye Faithful, but as a trumpet trio, not a duet. The trio series has different objectives to this trumpet duet series.
That’s the problem!
That this arrangement is less creative than the trio arrangement does not mean it is better or worse. Different is just different, not better or worse. But it IS more difficult to write a simpler arrangement, especially after you’ve written a more creative one. How do you put on the proverbial breaks without sounding like you are just dummying the piece down?
For me, the answer lies in following the objectives of the series without crossing any of the boundaries. I’ve been driving down the center of those objectives, being as creative as I can be while giving most of the work over to the original arrangers of the Christmas carols.
There is beauty in these timeless classics! In a sense, you could say that the objective of this Christmas carol trumpet duet series is to capture that beauty in a trumpet duet setting.
Trumpet Christmas Duet Series
This O Come All Ye Faithful trumpet duet arrangement is the next duet in a series of Trumpet Christmas Duets. The Christmas Trumpet Duets is like part two of the Trumpet Hymn Duets series (which is now also a book). There is a very specific format behind the arrangement that I’ve adhered to for almost every duet in the series (the exception for the Christmas duets is Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence).

Christmas Carol Trumpet DuetsWhen we reach twenty-one of these duets, we will begin to look at publishing them in a book like we did with the first twenty-one Trumpet Hymn Duets. Then I will go back to writing more of the hymns again. We put our emphasis on the Christmas carols because so many people requested them.
Skill Level
In our skill level system, O Come All Ye Faithful trumpet duet is at the Trumpet Player skill level. This is the third skill level in our system, the first of two intermediate skill levels.
Of all the Christmas carol trumpet duets in this series, I think this one is the easiest.
Practice Recommendations
Intonation is important in this arrangement. It’s always important, but in this trumpet duet arrangement of O Come All Ye Faithful the intonation of some of the trouble notes changes with the tonal shift. The D which is the fifth in one key becomes the third in the other. If you only play in tune according to the metronome, it won’t sound as good as if you alter them according to natural tuning systems.
There is also a measure towards the end where the two parts are over an octave apart. The intonation issues are emphasized in the first part, slurring from a naturally sharp note to a naturally flat one.
