Christmas Carol Trumpet Duet

I’ve been saying this on most of the descriptions for these Christmas carol trumpet duets, but I think it’s important to make the point. The idea behind all these Christmas carol arrangements is to honor the harmonies and moods of the original Christmas carols. I am stressing this point here because this arrangement would not be what it is without that modus operandi.

God Rest You Merry Gentlemen is one of those tunes that you can do so much with. As an example of one of my arrangements that uses the tune more creatively, check out my arrangement titled Trumpet Christmas Mashup. Not only do I enjoy writing ultra creative arrangements, the tune lends itself to so many options.

In comparison, this trumpet duet arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen will sound more simplistic, and more conservative. I write these duets this way as an effort for them to be appropriate for church services and other traditional Christmas celebrations.

Christmas Trumpet Duets

When we reach twenty-one of these duets, we will begin to look at publishing them in a book like we did with the first twenty-one Trumpet Hymn Duets. Then I will go back to writing more of the hymns again. We put our emphasis on the Christmas carols because so many people requested them.

Skill Level

In our skill level system, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen trumpet duet is at the Trumpet Player skill level. This is the third skill level in our system, the first of two intermediate skill levels.

Practice Recommendations

There is nothing tricky in this arrangement. If the finger technique of the second half is too much, then consider slowing the tempo. Most of my arrangements and compositions work well at slower tempi. The written tempi are not to be regarded as the final word.
