Morning Dance Trumpet Duet

By Eddie Lewis

Morning Dance trumpet duet is a happy original composition that alternates between six-eight and three-four time signatures. Think Leonard Bernstein’s “I Want to Live In America” but for an intermediate trumpet duet.

Forty Trumpet Player Duets book

The Morning Dance trumpet duet is number six in our Forty Trumpet Player Duets book. This is a book of intermediate trumpet duets that fit into our Trumpet Player Skill Level. They are listed largely in order of difficulty, so Morning Dance  is one of the easier duets in the book.

If you like Morning Dance and would like a book of dozens of similar trumpet duets, then we encourage you to visit the Forty Trumpet Player Duets page on this website.

We would also like to encourage you to check out our other duet books as well by clicking HERE (Trumpet Duet Books). We currently publish six different trumpet duet books (as of 2023).

Trumpet Player Skill Level

The most obvious aspect of the Trumpet Player Skill Level is that the highest note is written G above the staff. All the duets in the Forty Trumpet Player Duets book, including this Morning Dance trumpet duet, observe this restriction. There are six fifth line F sharps in the first part, and that is as high as it goes..

In the second part, the highest written note is fourth line D sharp.

The time signature in Morning Dance trumpet duet can be a little confusing for student if they’ve never done this sort of alternating before. This is a great opportunity to point out to the students that six-eight and three-four have the same number of eight-notes and that all that changes in each measure is the accents.

Practice Suggestions

Here are a few recommendations for working on this trumpet duet of My Only Love.

  • Pay close attention to dynamics.
  • Practice Tonalization Studies in D before working on Morning Dance.
  • Use your third valve slide on the appropriate notes beneath the staff.
