Hopewell Way from Hopewell Suite

Trumpet Sextet Sheet Music and PDF
by Eddie Lewis

Hopewell Suite is a trumpet ensemble composition for four trumpets and two flugelhorns. It was composed in 2016 using inspirations Eddie Lewis collected while he was in South Africa for the jazz festival in Grahamstown, in the Eastern Cape. Hopewell is the name of the farm where Eddie and his wife stayed most of the time while they were in South Africa. The farm is owned by their brother-in-law. Hopewell Way is the first movement of the suite.

The imagery associated with the music comes from the farm road leading to Hopewell Farm. The dirt road winds and dips and curves and peaks its way for three and a half miles to the entrance to Hopewell from the main road. Along the way there are ponds/dams, cattle, dozens of species of birds, wild bush pigs, beautiful flowers and interesting plants, a variety of different buck and an occasional monkey. Imagine walking down this dirt road with the farm dogs as your trusty companions. THAT is Hopewell Way!
