Often times, writing the descriptions of my compositions is the most difficult part of publishing my music. How does someone put into words the meaning and value of such an intangible “product” like music?

But I Put My Life In Your Hands trumpet quintet is an exception. In some ways, the past four years have been very difficult for me. I won’t go into more detail than that. Everyone’s life is hard and I don’t make a habit of dwelling on that publicly. I only share it here because it was this “condition” that lead me to write a new, original hymn.

I Put My Life In Your Hands is an original hymn about relying completely on God to get us through our daily struggles. This trumpet quintet version of the hymn came after the SATB version. I wrote the original SATB version to be something I would sing to remind me that I can trust God with every aspect of my life.

Trumpet Quintet Version

The trumpet quintet version of I Put My Life In Your Hands grew out of the SATB version, after me spending time singing it. This hymn has meaning to me. It’s not just a “composition” I wrote. It’s a piece that sounds happy, even though the world around me when I sing it is falling apart.

In this quintet version, I tried to capture some of the nuances that I have experienced while singing the hymn. The joy in the hymn contrasts the current circumstances. And in the end the joy is even greater, with fanfares and rhythmic flourishes.

My goal for this arrangement is that people will be able to listen to the music and it will encourage them, no matter what their circumstances dictate. God is our provider. God is our healer. God loves us with His loving kindness. Our faith is often distracted because we focus so heavily on our problems that we don’t see how his love can lift us out of those problems.

I want this I Put My Life In Your Hands trumpet quintet to help people focus more on God’s love. I want it to help people know the truth of His love.
