Feathered Friends
Beginner Trumpet Solo Sheet Music PDF
by Eddie Lewis
Feathered Friends is the third of three solos for trumpet with piano accompaniment that I’ve written for beginner trumpet players. These are easier than easy trumpet solos for trumpet students who have only been playing trumpet for a few months.

The solo is limited to musical qualities consistent with our Trumpet Pioneer skill level. This means the range is limited to C in the staff, limited to one flat or sharp in the key signature, limited to quarter-notes and limited in phrase length. The problem with most similar piece written for beginner trumpet students is that they have at least one aspect that falls outside of these parameters. Which is why I wrote these three solos. There are hundreds of solos for all the other levels, but the pioneer level hasn’t had a single solo that I’ve found so far (and I’m always looking).
Get Them Performing Early
My teaching method places a lot of emphasis on music and performance. This is true, even though I am most well known as an author of trumpet exercise books and daily routines. The fact is, those exercises and routines are useless outside of a musical context. So I encourage all of my youngest students to perform, even only a few months into their progress.
That’s a problem if you’re going to use standard literature because there is none for students of that level. That’s why I have been writing so much beginner and easy trumpet music. We have solos, duets, trios and quartets, all for students that have been playing trumpet for as little as two or three months.
