Description
Jugamos el Juego Brass Quintet with Drums
by Eddie Lewis
Jugamos el Juego is a composition for brass quintet and drum set in a style reminiscent of merengue dance music. I composed it in the 1990’s to be included in the Sounds of the South album by the Texas Brass Quintet (now called the Texas Brass Ensemble).
This composition was my way of bridging the two worlds I was living in at the time. During the day, I was a classical brass quintet trumpet player. At night I was making my living playing “Spanish music” in bands that played mostly salsa, but also most other Latin dance styles, including merengue.
Jugamos el Juego was popular with the Texas Brass from the very beginning. We even played it a few times at the Texas Renaissance Festival (for which the Texas Brass has been the resident brass quintet since the late 80’s).
