At the Riverside
Trumpet Trio Sheet Music and PDF
by Eddie Lewis
At the Riverside is a very slow, unfolding melody in seven-four time signature. The piece is meant to depict the kinds of peacefulness one might experience at a riverside baptism. It is slow enough that you might assume it to be very easy. It’s not as easy as it sounds. To play the entire piece with a good sound does require a good bit of endurance.
The piece also requires an astute sense of phrasing, otherwise it will just sound like a beginner band piece.
For these reasons, we are categorizing At the Riverside as a Trumpet Pro level trumpet trio. Even though the highest note only goes up to G above the staff, the endurance and phrasing put it up a good two levels.
