An Angel from Heaven Said to Me
Easy Trumpet Trio Sheet Music and PDF
by Eddie Lewis
An Angel from Heaven is a composition for beginner to intermediate trumpet players. It is a simple, call and response composition. The top note in the first part is top line F.
We use the call and response form to give each of the students rest. Otherwise the composition would have needed to be much shorter. We do not expect trumpet students of this level to play as many measure on a single song. But the rest created by the call and response allows them to stretch the length, which helps a lot with concert programming.
An Angel from Heaven Said to Me
The title of the composition comes from the melody. For most of his original compositions, choosing a title is typically one of the last things Eddie Lewis does. When he finished this trumpet trio, the title came from the words that popped into his mind while listening to the playback. “An Angel from Heaven Said to Me” is perfect musical drama because it sounds like each player in the ensemble is giving a different rendition of what the angel said…as part of the call and response.
